Cordoba – Where Religions Merge

Cordoba has a varied and mixed religious history and evidence of this changing religious focus is clearly seen in one of its most famous tourist attractions- the Mezquita. It was built by the then ruler Ummayad Emir Abd'Al Rahman I around the 8^th century. He believed that this would be the greatest mosque in the Islamic world and stand testimony to his great reign.
When the Christians regained power in the 1230's, the mosque underwent a makeover of sorts to become a church. The influence of the architecture typical to both these religions is still quite evident in the structure standing today.
